ABA ROLI is a non-profit pro­gram that implements legal reform programs in roughly 50 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 500 professional staff work­ing abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organi­zations, including human rights groups.

JOB SUMMARY

ABA ROLI is seeking a Senior Grant Accountant to support the Finance Division’s oversight of ABA ROLI’s international grant programs. Responsibilities of this position will include reviewing, processing, and recording grant activities for multiple and/or complex international grants. This Senior Grant Accountant will work as part of a team to provide crucial financial backstopping for ABA ROLI’s field-based programs in rule of law, judicial reform, access to justice, and related issue areas, in addition to general training responsibilities for field and DC staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Reviews accounting transaction for potential charging against grants for an assigned set of countries and ensures compliance with grantor, government or private entities, and appropriate rules, regulations, and/or grant provisions.

· Reviews inquiries from Grant Accountants and provides interpretation on allowability; may also provide an initial assessment as to whether non-allowable expenses will be written off and charged to General Revenue.

· Prepares and uploads journal entries for monthly cash actuals for program related expenses (e.g., field reports, in-kind contributions, reclassifications, write-offs, etc.).

· Runs and/or develops pipeline reports and general ledgers on a monthly basis and adds other committed funds and provides program managers and field staff with reports on cash burn and remaining funding of specific grants.

· Prepares government reports (e.g., SF425) and private donor reports either on a standardized reporting schedule or on an ad hoc basis.

· Prepares, submits, and follows up on wire transfers and/or direct deposit.

· Assists Grant Accountants with more complex interactions and negotiations with Country Directors and program staff.

· Collaborates with Field Finance Managers from assigned countries/grants on expense inquiries, supporting materials, expense allowability, policies, additional awards, and general inquiries.

· Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Possession of a Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.

· At least five years' experience reviewing financial transactions against grant provisions to determine allowability of such transactions.

· At least five years' experience interpreting and applying grant rules and regulations from government entities (e.g., OMB circulars) and/or private donors.

· At least one year of experience working with an ERP financial reporting tool in a grantor or grantee environment.

· Intermediate-level skill in the Microsoft Office Suite of products.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Fluency in a language of a host country for which support is provided.

· Previous experience interacting with program support staff, donors, and/or grantors; ability to work as part of a fast-moving team.

· Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written and verbal communication in English required.

· Strong attention to detail; analytical problem solving skills.

· Strong understanding of compliance and auditing of expenses;

· In-depth experience providing training, presenting to audiences, and with public speaking strongly preferred.
