TIP Program Coordinator – Trinidad and Tobago

American Bar Association Background

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) was established in 1990 as a public service project of the ABA to promote the rule of law around the world and has implemented legal reform programs in more than 100 countries. Together with partners including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice, and social organizations, ABA ROLI designs programs that are responsive to local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions to pressing rule of law challenges. Project Background

Program Presentation

ABA ROLI is recruiting for a Program Coordinator to support the implementation of an expected anti-human trafficking program in the Caribbean region. The expected program will support investigations and prosecutions of human trafficking (TIP) cases in the Caribbean, specifically Antigua Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Lucia, working with local authorities and civil society organizations to prevent TIP and strengthen practices for identifying and protecting victims. The program will support local authorities in combating labor and sexual exploitation, with a focus on the tourism industry, including child sex tourism, forced labor, child trafficking, and modern-day slavery practices.

The Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of ABA ROLI’s program to combat TIP in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as support initiatives in the Caribbean region, including ABA ROLI's collaboration with, among others, local and international partner organizations, community leaders, and governmental authorities at the international, national, and regional levels.

Location:

This is a full-time position based in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Responsibilities:

  • Support activity design and implementation of ABA ROLI’s TIP activities in prioritized departments in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Foster strong collaboration and coordination with program partners to facilitate implementation of program initiatives.
  • Support knowledge management, linkages, and exchange of lessons learned and best practices across program activities and with program partners and stakeholders.
  • Oversee and support the implementation of program meetings, events, and workshops, and liaise with program contacts.
  • Coordinate program changes to respond to emerging issues regarding TIP in the Caribbean region.
  • Coordinate and participate in the recruitment and onboarding of consultants, from scheduling interviews, and coordinating regular check-in meetings to reviewing consultant deliverables.
  • Prepare program reports, including among others, quarterly and annual program reports.
  • Assist with the report of activities through the monitoring and evaluation tools and data collection reports.
  • Regularly coordinate with our implementing partners, ABA ROLI’s headquarters, and the local field team.
  • Maintain program files, folders, and databases for secure and easy access and retrieval.
  • Assist with outreach to other organizations and partners for collaboration.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Supervision:

The Program Coordinator will supervise a Program Assistant.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in humanities, law, and related areas relevant to this project, such as migration and human rights.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with international organizations, preferably in the field of human rights, humanitarian assistance, migration, or international development, and at least three (3) years experience as a coordination lead for program implementation.
  • Proven academic or professional experience working on initiatives to combat trafficking in persons, preferably with both international cooperation and the public sector.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
  • Experience working with U.S. government donor-funded projects within a non-profit, association, or civil service organization setting.
  • Work experience in a professional environment with people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong commitment to rule of law principles.
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or specialization is desired.
