Women and Girls Empowered (WAGE) is seeking a bilingual Spanish-English lawyer to conduct and report on key informant interviews (KIIs) in Honduras (one week) and El Salvador (one week) for the assessment of legal and practical barriers that female entrepreneurs in these countries face in financing, starting up, growing, and sustaining their businesses. KIIs will take place in July 2018 and will be based on an assessment methodology produced by WAGE.
Requirements:
- Law degree
- Background in commercial, trade, property, banking/finance or other regulatory law; at least 2-3 years of experience.
- Experience in legal analysis in the Latin American context. (International and human rights law, and women’s economic empowerment or gender programs/studies are a plus.)
Preference will be given to pro bono lawyers. The assessor does not need to be an American attorney or live in the U.S. WAGE will cover travel expenses.

About Women and Girls Empowered (WAGE)
WAGE is a global programming consortium to advance the status of women and girls worldwide, led by the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) in close partnership with the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), Grameen Foundation, Search for Common Ground (SFCG), and 43 international, regional, local, and corporate resource partners. WAGE works to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) in target countries to improve the prevention of and response to gender-based violence; advance the women, peace and security agenda; and support women’s economic empowerment, which are WAGE’s core thematic areas.
Focusing on women’s economic empowerment, WAGE will implement its first strategic initiative in El Salvador and Honduras, in partnership with Kiva, a leading online lending platform that connects lenders to entrepreneurs across the globe to alleviate poverty. WAGE will provide a combination of financing and capacity building that improves the ability of local microfinance institutions and civil society to recognize, respond to, and reduce barriers that women entrepreneurs face in accessing finance and growing and sustaining their businesses.
