Description

The “Advancing Human Rights for All in Armenia” project is a two-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the ABA ROLI in collaboration with Human Rights Defender Office of Armenia (HRDO). The Project seeks to ensure human rights protection for all Armenians by strengthening the capacity of the HRDO and its collaboration with human rights organizations, as well as promoting public awareness of human rights and human rights protection mechanisms. ABA ROLI is recruiting a communications expert to provide pro-bono support to the HRDO to develop a communication strategy and implementation plan to continue expanding and strengthening the media relations and communication skills of HRDO staff for impactful communication and compelling messaging on human rights promotion, protection, and compliance. The communication strategy and implementation plan will focus on communication flows through different departments, how information is consolidated and distributed internally, communication/outreach plans to media, and communication/outreach plans to the public (including but not limited to reports and their accessibility/etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the HRDO (both remotely and in person) to discuss the HRDO communication process;
  • Develop guidelines on how best to fill gaps and strengthen the process;
  • Develop an institutional communication strategy and implementation plan; and,
  • Design and conduct a one-day training for the HRDO staff on the guidelines and the established plan.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field highly preferred with 10 or more years’ experience in communications/media relations
  • Experience supporting human rights in development contexts preferred
  • Experience leading workshops preferred
  • Experience working in development settings and in partnership with local stakeholders is highly desirable
  • Fluency in English (Armenian language skills preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work four (4) weeks throughout the months of April and May of 2019. The expert must be able to dedicate two of these weeks for work in Armenia; the remaining two weeks will be remote work.

Please note: Although this is a voluntary position, ABA ROLI will cover the costs of travel, per diem, and lodging in Armenia.
