The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) seeks a short-term Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Expert Consultant to support the Reducing Barriers to Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative (RBI) in Honduras and El Salvador under the ABA ROLI-led Women and Girls Empowered (WAGE) consortium. Managed by Grameen Foundation (one of WAGE’s core partners), the RBI takes a holistic view of the challenges that female entrepreneurs face in starting and growing sustainable businesses, including linkages between financial inclusion, GBV, and conflict. WAGE provides financial support to women microentrepreneurs and works with local microfinance institutions (MFIs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) to reduce legal and practical barriers that women face in the world of business, including GBV.
Scope of work: The consultant will review, provide substantive input to, and contextualize two GBV training modules developed under the RBI. The GBV module no. 1 will become an integral part of the “Resilient Lives Resilient Businesses (RLRB)” educational curriculum for women micro- and small- entrepreneurs in Honduras and El Salvador. The module will be used to educate women entrepreneurs who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing GBV about their rights and available services, and to provide them with tools necessary to develop personal safety and business continuity plans. The module will also account for a potentially increased risk of GBV associated with women’s participation in economic activity. The GBV module no. 2 will be a part of the training of trainers (TOT) curriculum indented for MFI staff who will be responsible for delivering the RLRB education to women entrepreneurs in their communities. The TOT module will include a sub-section on how to deliver trauma-informed GBV education.
Qualifications: The applicant must have at least 5 years of experience working on GBV response, preferably at the community level; proven experience in designing and implementing GBV-oriented trainings for a variety of stakeholders; and demonstrated knowledge of GBV prevention, protection, and accountability mechanisms in El Salvador or/or Honduras (or, more broadly, in Central America). The applicant must be fluent in English and Spanish, have a thorough understanding of trauma-informed and survivor-centered approaches to GBV, and familiarity with key concepts of adult learning.
Length of contract and deliverables: The contract will run through September 30, 2020 and might be extended as needed. It is anticipated that the expert consultant will spend approximately 5-10 days working on the project. The due dates for the deliverables can be adjusted when agreed upon in writing (by email) by both parties.
How to apply:
Application: Please submit an updated resume, daily consultancy rate, and suggested level of effort for each deliverable to Paula Rudnicka, WAGE Technical Advisor, at Paulina.Rudnicka@americanbar.org by April 21, 2020. WAGE will review applications on a rolling basis.
