Organization: American Bar Association
Country: United States of America
Closing date: 16 Aug 2016

The American Bar Association (ABA) Center for Human Rights and Rule of Law Initiative are seeking to hire a staff attorney to join their joint Justice Works Program.

The Program Manager will be responsible for implementing core programmatic activities, including but not limited to the following: convening an Advisory Council of international experts and advocates; identifying and conducting outreach in potential focus countries; identifying and recruiting pro bono technical experts for the Justice Works Program; curating the Justice Works site with resources and information; identifying sub-awardees and overseeing sub-awards to local civil society.

The Program: Violence against the LGBTI community is a global phenomenon. Failures to investigate or prosecute such attacks violate the rights of the victims and signal government tolerance for crimes against LGBTI persons. This impunity increases the vulnerability of the LGBTI community to additional violence and prevents effective coordination and partnership between LGBTI civil society and government allies. The Justice Works Program is a new global program to reduce impunity for bias-motivated violence against LGBTI persons by enhancing the capacity of governmental and non-governmental organizations to bring perpetrators to justice. It will provide technical assistance and expertise in individual cases where the community is seeking justice and in support of broader campaigns to increase the willingness and capacity of government officials to prevent, investigate, and prosecute violence against LGBTI persons.
