Part-Time Consultant Expert in International Criminal Law

The American Bar Association Center for Human Rights is seeking a consultant expert in international criminal law to advise on cases related to accountability for human rights violations committed against human rights defenders (including but not limited to activists, journalists, pro-democracy advocates, lawyers, and judges). The contractor will conduct legal research and draft contextual elements of crimes against humanity and relevant enumerated crimes, including murder, torture, and enforced disappearances. The contractor will also conduct evidentiary open-source investigations, undertake review of case files in line with international law, and meet with U.N. and government officials to collect information, discuss submissions and evidence, and conduct advocacy as needed.

The ideal contractor will hold a legal education (JD, LLM, or PhD preferred), demonstrate specific expertise in international criminal law and accountability for human rights violations, and be familiar with basic digital security protocols. The estimated level of effort is 15 working days.
