The ABA Center for Human Rights is the ABA’s focal entity for critical human rights concerns in the United States and around the world. The center is seeking a paid, remote, part-time consultant and/or consulting organization to assist with labor rights-related cases globally.
The ideal consultant and/or consulting organization will have significant experience producing and reviewing legal analyses on cases related to labor rights. They will also have experience in crafting and executing advocacy and engagement strategies with relevant stakeholders, such as the ILO and other international accountability mechanisms, unions, and governments to protect labor rights defenders and advocates.
Responsibilities will include:
- Consult with ABA CHR Legal Advisor for Labor Rights and Corporate Accountability on projects on an as-needed basis. This will be a deliverable-based consultancy without a weekly or monthly fixed schedule.
- Monitor specific advocacy opportunities in relation to identified labor cases to be determined by Legal Advisor.
- Develop, advise on, and execute approved advocacy strategies to engage with relevant stakeholders (including but not limited to the ILO and other international accountability mechanisms, regional bodies, unions and governments) to protect labor rights defenders and advocates.
- Assist in negotiations with brands on compliance with international labor standards.
- Research and write legal analyses for identified labor cases to be determined by Legal Advisor.
- Draft and review reports, blogs, and issue briefs.
- Other tasks as necessary and as agreed upon between the contractor and the ABA.
