JOB SUMMARY
The Program Associate, Operations assists in the design and development of programs, projects and activities of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Division of ABA’s Rule of Law Initiative, and is responsible for implementation of programs and projects under the supervision of the program director or manager. This Program Associate is held accountable for the successful execution of assigned programs and projects.
In coordination with the ABA ROLI MENA team, this Program Associate supports the program officers and managers of overseas, grant-funded programs in the Middle East and North African region. Specifically, this position is responsible for development, monitoring, and revision of program budgets, as well as monitoring of monthly financial expenditures from overseas programs. This individual will provide general administrative backstopping for field-based programs - including contracting processes, submission and review of expense reports, and preparation of spending projections. The Program Associate, Operations must ensure compliance with organizational and donor regulations/policies, while tracking a wide range of information – including payments, expense reports, contracts, and consultant information.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements one or more programs or projects, includes participation in program/project planning, and ensuring compliance with ABA policies;
- Analyzes project/program performance throughout the process to ensure projects move forward in a productive manner;
- Serves as a point of contact for projects; Communicates with member leaders and staff, including reporting on progress and results;
- Coordinates with others on joint projects;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university (or equivalent experience);
- 1-2 years of experience, preferably in an association or non-profit setting;
- Analytical problem solving ability, self-direction, project experience, research and writing skills, and meeting planning experience;
- Fundraising or grant application experience is a plus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Proven research and writing skills, in-depth experience with internet research; analytical problem solving skills, ability to work independently;
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel;
International experience and knowledge of the Middle East and North African region strongly preferred; knowledge of one or more regional languages helpful; Experience with financial management of grant-funded programs preferred.
