Somalia: ABA ROLI Consultant Research Officer, EAJ in Somalia

The Research and Learning Unit of the Expanding Access to Justice Program in Somalia (EAJ) is aiming to deploy a consultant research officer to support the Research and Learning Team Lead in all research and learning related activities.

This includes:

• Aiding in the collection and pooling of all data and information collected by the EAJ, including through research, but also through stakeholder meetings
• Organizing of at least one workshop; supporting the Research and Learning Team Lead in the establishment and upkeep of a website
• Aiding the editing and processing of research products and other publications
• Helping to collect everyday APEA data and supervise the write-ups from Regional Experts
• Collect information from the MERL (e.g. from outcome journals) on valuable contextual and programmatic insights
• Developing guidance templates for EAJ staff to document observations on the local operating environment
• Helping to organize quarterly meetings with partners and provide the opportunities for partners and grantees to discuss contextual factors
• Helping to draw up lessons from all those activities into short briefs for the team
• Support the development of the AJAT index especially through organizing the interaction with local partners
• Aiding process of AJAT data collection and User Perspective Research;
• Aiding the application of AJAT index in the field
• Helping organizer quarterly program adaptation meetings
• Liaising with partners on advocacy campaigns
• Develop call for research and help select scholars for grants

Experience of Consultant

• Masters degree in social science, regional studies, or related field.
• Proven in-depth knowledge of social and political context of Somalia
• Good English writing and communication skills
• At least four years of experience with research assignments
• At least four years of experience in working in the Somali context
• Somali language skills desirable
• Track record of involvement in publications

Supervision

The research officer will report to the EAJ Research and Learning Team Lead.

Travel

The consultancy is home-based with possible travel to Somalia and Somaliland.
